NFL Notes: Relocation, Packers, Redskins

Relocation

  • 29 NFL teams will receive a gross some of $55.2 million over a period of time up to 11 years as part of the agreement to allow the Rams, Chargers, and Raiders to relocate to new markets. (Darren Rovell)
  • In total, the Rams and Chargers will each pay $645 million while the Raiders will have to pay $378 million over 10 years to move to Las Vegas.
  • One other note regarding the NFL: Teams were paid $244 million in national revenue, which means the NFL distributed $7.8 billion to the 32 clubs for the 2016 season.

Packers

On Wednesday, the Packers reported another record revenue year for the franchise as part of their annual financial disclosure, via USA Today.

Here are some notes from the Packers’ financial report:

  • Total revenue: $441.4 million (8 percent increase)
  • Profit: $65.4 million (9.7 percent decrease)
  • Net income: $72.8 million
  • National revenue: $244 million (9.6 percent increase)
  • Local revenue: $197.4 million (6.1 percent increase)
  • Total expenses: $376.1 million (12.7 percent increase)

Redskins

Ian Rapoport tells JP Finlay of CSN Mid-Atlantic that he thinks QB Kirk Cousins would be “very happy” to be in Washington long term if the Redskins were willing to pay him what he feels he’s worth.

“If they pay him what he’s worth, I would imagine that he would be very happy to be there,” Rapoport said.

Rapoport added that while Cousins may be frustrated with how this process has played out, it may not matter in the end if they can reach an agreement on his value.

Now, is Cousins frustrated by why he doesn’t already have a long-term extension? I’m sure he is. I would be, too” Rapoport said. “But I don’t think any of that matters as much as strictly the numbers, because if you get a long-term contract, all of that fades away very, very quickly, and we’ve seen it over and over and over in the NFL.”
