NFL Notes: St. Louis, Cowboys & Packers

St. Louis

  • Dan Caesar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that KTVI in St. Louis will televise Bears preseason games this summer after they previously carried the Rams exhibitions games.
  • This is just the latest NFL team to begin making their way into the St. Louis market now that the Rams have relocated to Los Angeles.
  • The Chiefs will also have their preseason games televised in St. Louis, but on a different network (KMOV).

Cowboys

Following the news that LB Rolando McClain will be suspended for 10 games after he violated the league’s substance abuse policy for the second straight year, Cowboys veteran CB Brandon Carr says it will be up to the rest of the defense to come together this summer to offset his loss.

“Well, anytime you get a guy going down in your unit, you have to come together even stronger to make up for that slack,” Carr mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio, via Pro Football Talk. “But Rolando is a guy that’s made a lot of plays for us in the past two years, another dominant presence on the field. So we’re definitely going to miss that. But football’s a game of the next man up, it’s a game of inches. So it’s going to take for all of us to come to training camp focused and next man up, get him ready, get prepared to go out there to battle.”

Packers

Packers TE Richard Rodgers says he’s trying to learn from veteran TE Jared Cook, who was brought in to bolster the team’s depth at the position this offsason.

Whenever a veteran comes in, you just try to learn from them,” Rodgers said, via Packers.com. “He knows little things about defenses and things about playing the position that maybe a coach can’t give you. It’s been great having him around and giving us advice.

Head coach Mike McCarthy mentioned that he doesn’t think the addition of Cook will be welcomed by the team and Rodgers in particular.

“I don’t think players really view it that way,” McCarthy said. “I think any time you bring in a player at their particular position – particularly veteran players – veteran players understand that you need as many as good players as you possibly can. That’s why you do everything you can as far as building a 90-man roster. I would definitely think Richard welcomes that.”
