NFL Notes: Tom Brady, Colin Kaepernick, Holdouts, & Eagles

Tom Brady

  • NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said there will be no settlement talks between the league and suspended Patriots QB Tom Brady. (Mike Rodak)

Colin Kaepernick

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick won’t be cleared to participate in their minicamp this week.
  • However, Rapoport adds that the hope right now is that Kaepernick will be cleared closer to the start of training camp.

Holdouts

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that skipping three-day mandatory minicamp will cost NFL players $76,580 this year.
  • According to Florio, a player would be docked $12,765 for the first day, $25,525 for the second day and $38,290 for the third day.

Eagles

  • Eliot Shorr-Parks writes that the Eagles signing DT Fletcher Cox to a big-money extension right now isn’t a very wise move from a business perspective.
  • Shorr-Parks points out that the Eagles will owe Cox just $8 million for the 2016 season and will have the franchise tag available to use on him in 2017. If they go this route, they would have Cox under control at an average cap hit of $10.5 million for what could be the best two years of his prime.
  • Bill Voth of the Black and Blue Review reports that the word around the league right now is that Cox’s agent is trying to top the six-year extension worth $96.6 million signed by Bills DT Marcell Dareus.
