NFL Rumors: Asomugha As A 49er?

With no shortage of teams that will be interested in Nnamdi Asomugha, it would take to long to mention all of the possibilities so we’ll just focus on one for now.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee discusses the possibility that Asomugha could become a San Francisco 49er this offseason. Barrows points out that there are three main reason why the 49ers could have an advantage over other teams that are likely to be interested in him.

The first is that joining the 49ers wouldn’t require him to move which is probably worth consideration but geographic location usually doesn’t have a large impact upon big names free agents that are in a position to command huge money. The second advantage for San Francisco is that he is represented by Ben Dogra who just happens to be the agent for Patrick Willis. The last advantage that Barrows points out is that Vic Fangio‘s system is similar to Dom Capers scheme which could allow Asomugha to play more man-to-man coverage.

As of now, it’s pretty tough to guess where he’ll end up so we’ll have to wait to see how things play out.
