Raiders Interview Mike Mayock For GM Job, Considered “Strong Candidate”

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that NFL analyst Mike Mayock has emerged as a “strong candidate” for the Raiders’ GM position.

According to Garafolo, Mayock has already interviewed with the Raiders is one of a few candidates for the position.

Mayock is actually at Arrowhead for the Raiders’ game against the Chiefs.

Regarding the report, Mayock tells Michael Gehlken: “All I can say is I had an interview. I know they’ve interviewed a whole bunch of guys. And I have no idea the status.”

The Raiders are in the process of replacing Reggie McKenzie and reports have said that the team would like to hire someone who can work with and command the respect of HC Jon Gruden.

However, Gruden will obviously have final say personnel matters, given his status with the team.

A few years ago, Mayock surfaced as a candidate for the Redskins’ GM position before they hired Doug Williams.

Mayock, 60, played a few years in the NFL for the Steelers and Giants. He began his broadcasting career in 2005 with the NFL Network and has worked for a number of other networks calling games.

Mayock doesn’t have any personnel experience for NFL teams but has been a widely respected draft analyst for several years now.

We’ll have more regarding the Raiders’ GM search as the news is available.
