Raiders LT Donald Penn Expected To End Holdout This Week

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, citing league sources, reports that veteran LT Donald Penn is expected to end his holdout and report to the Raiders at some point this week, and possibly as soon as Tuesday.

Penn has missed the past 25 days of training camp while seeking a pay raise that would boost his 2017 salary to something closer to market value. However, Tafur says that it’s unlikely the Raiders and Penn will have a new deal in place once he returns.

Even so, Tafur believes negotiations could pick up and he will likely get his contract guaranteed for at least this year.

Penn, 34, originally signed on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State back in 2006. After a few months in Minnesota, Penn signed on with the Buccaneers during his rookie season and spent eight years in Tampa Bay before he was released back in 2014.

The Raiders signed to a contract soon after and brought him back on a two-year, $11.9 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed last year. Penn stands to make a base salary of $5.8 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Penn appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 12 offensive tackle out of 77 qualifying players.
