Ravens & TE Dennis Pitta Agree To Restructured Deal

Update:

The Baltimore Ravens announced Wednesday that they’ve officially agreed to a restructured with TE Dennis Pitta.

“Dennis wants to continue his playing career, and we want to give him that opportunity,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome stated. “We have reworked his contract, and we’re excited to help him with his comeback. Everyone here wants Dennis to succeed.”

“I am thankful for this opportunity to continue my career,” Pitta stated. “I’m excited to get back to work with my teammates and for this organization. Physically, I feel great and am ready to begin building toward a successful 2016 season.”

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported yesterday that Pitta will have a chance to make up some of his $5 million base salary by reaching incentives.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Ravens TE Dennis Pitta has decided to continue his NFL career after consulting with doctors this offseason regarding his hip.

According to Garafolo, Pitta is expected to participate in the team’s offseason workouts and the spring practices, with the hope being he will be ready for full contact this summer.

When Dennis has an announcement to make, he’ll make,” said a team spokesman, per Jeff Zrebiec.

Previous reports mentioned that doctors have advised Pitta to not resume his NFL career after multiple hip injuries. However, it appears as though things have changed for him.

Many assumed that Pitta’s career was likely over after he was placed on season-ending injured reserve last year with HC John Harbaugh saying that that they didn’t feel as though it was safe for Pitta to play following the multiple hip surgeries.

Pitta, 30, is a former fourth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2010. He’s in the third year of his five-year, $32.5 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2014, Pitta was limited to appearing in three games and catching 16 passes for 125 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Pitta’s career as the news is available.
