Ravens Waive RB Trent Richardson, Sign WR Chuck Jacobs

The Baltimore Ravens announced that they’ve placed RB Trent Richardson on waivers Tuesday and signed WR Chuck Jacobs.

Reports from June mentioned that Richardson likely needs arthroscopic surgery on his knee, due to a pre-existing issue. While the injury isn’t considered to be anything major, Richardson already faced long odds of making the 53-man roster this summer, so it would have been surprising to see him make the team.

Richardson, 25, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Browns during the 2012 NFL draft. However, he lasted just over a year in Cleveland before he was traded to the Colts for a first-round pick.

The Raiders elected to sign him to a two-year, $3.85 million contract that included $600,000 guaranteed back in March last year only to release him during roster cuts.

Richardson worked out for the Ravens a few months ago, but had to get in shape before the team signed him to a one-year deal worth $675,000 a few months ago.

In 2014, he ran for 519 yards on 159 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 27 receptions for 229 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 running back out of 57 qualifying players.
