Redskins OLB Trent Murphy Suspended 4 Games For PED Violation

The NFL announced Friday that Redskins OLB Trent Murphy has officially been suspended the first four games of 2017 for violating NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

Reports surfaced a month ago that Murphy was facing a four-game suspension, but he was in the process of appealing the ban. However, it looks like Murphy’s appeal was denied.

Murphy, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Redskins back in 2014. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $4.472 million contract that includes $2.616 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $1.03 million for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Murphy appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 47 tackles, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 edge defender out of 109 qualifying players.
