Redskins Planning To Start Kirk Cousins In Week 1

According to Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN, the Redskins are not only planning to start Kirk Cousins in Saturday’s third preseason game, but also in the season opener against the Dolphins.

  • Albert Breer reports that the team’s decision to sit RGIII tonight is health-related, and no final call has been made regarding who will be their starting quarterback in Week 1.

This comes after the Redskins announced last night that upon further review by neuropsychologists, QB Robert Griffin III was being held out from game action for the next one to two weeks.

RGIII will obviously need to pass an evaluation at that point in time before he can return to the field.

Washington intially told reporters that he hadn’t suffered a concussion after their first preseason game, and had announced that he was cleared earlier on Friday before backtracking.

Redskins HC Jay Gruden has said previously that he intends to play RGIII as his starting quarterback no matter what this season, but given how poorly everything has been handled in regards to the former No. 2 overall pick, maybe it would be better for them to give Cousins a real opportunity to win the job.

Many have suggested that Washington should just move on from RGIII, as both the team and the quarterback would likely be best served with a fresh start.
