Reggie Wayne Likely To Consider Retirement After The Season

Long-time Colts WR Reggie Wayne tells Mike Chappell of RTV6 that there is a good chance he’ll consider calling it a career once this season has concluded.

“It’s real, man,” Wayne said of possibly retiring. “It’s tough, it really is. You have to decide if you want to make that sacrifice again. A lot goes into it.

Wayne stressed that it’s time for him to make some “family decisions” and be there for his kids, who are involved in their own activities.

Thirty-six, man. Kids growing up. It’s time for family decisions,” Wayne said. “They’re 11, 5 and 3. They’re doing stuff now. I’ve got an 11-year-old that’s all over the place, doing things, playing football.

“It sucks when you hear he’s playing defensive end and he got a sack/fumble to win a game and you ain’t there.

Wayne, 36, suffered a major knee injury last year, which could explain his dip in production this season. He’s currently in the final year of his three-year, $17.5 million contract and will make a base salary of $4 million for the 2014 season.

It’s hard to say how much interest he would find on the open market next year should he consider playing another year. Wayne’s age and the fact that he’s coming off of a down season will have a big impact on the kind of offers he’ll receive, so it makes sense that he would take a step back a evaluate the entirety of his situation.

This season, Wayne has appeared in 11 games and caught 54 passes for 636 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
