Giants Unlikely To Prevent Martellus Bennett From Hitting The Open Market?

Update:

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News writes that although there’s “mutual interest” between the Giants and free agent TE Martellus Bennett, he suspects Bennett will test the open market.

Vacchiano adds that Bennett’s reps believe his market value is going to be more than what the Giants are capable of paying him.

Bennett may not find as much interest as Jared Cook, but he’s arguably the better tight end.

We have him listed as the No. 8 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

—————-

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that the Giants appear to be in the process of making a “late push” to re-sign free agent Martellus Bennett.

Vacchiano adds that this could be the Giants last attempt to prevent him from hitting the open market.

The two sides have talked in recent days, but “there’s no indication that an agreement is close.”

Bennett’s agent mentioned that he’s still in New York and is open communicating.

Clearly, the Giants would like to retain Bennett after he really came on for them last season, but they’ve had such a great track record with getting big production out of guys who are barely known around the league. They also have limited cap space to work with so we’ll have to see how things turnout for them.

We have him listed as the No. 17 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
