Report: Mike Vrabel Turns Down 49ers’ DC Job To Remain With Texans

John Middlekauff of 95.7 The Game reports that the Mike Vrabel has turned down the 49ers’ defensive coordinator position to remain with the Texans.

San Francisco interviewed Vrabel on Tuesday and indications were that he was their preferred option.

Recent reports have said that San Francisco could keep Eric Mangini in place as their defensive coordinator. However, that was before they met with Vrabel and offered him the job.

During his press conference on Wednesday, Kelly described what he’s looking for in a coordinator.

I’m looking for a defensive coordinator that can shut people out,” Kelly said. “I’m a base 3-4 guy.

Vrabel, 40, finished his NFL career back in 2010 and took a coaching job with the Ohio State. After three years in Columbus as an assistant, he made the move to the NFL and has been working with Bill O’Brien as their linebackers coach.

We’ll have more regarding the 49ers’ defensive coordinator position as the news is available.
