Robert Griffin III Says He Turned Down Offers From Cardinals & Ravens

Free agent QB Robert Griffin III claims he turned down offers from the Ravens and Cardinals this offseason.

“I had an offer from Arizona, and also from Baltimore,” Griffin said on ESPN’s SC6, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I had interest in the offseason. It just wasn’t the right fit and I had to make that decision for myself to say, ‘Look, if I don’t accept this offer, there’s a chance I won’t play football this year.’ And I would talk to my family, and I was OK with that, OK with the fact that it might happen.”

Griffin added that he still isn’t giving up on the possibility of catching on with a team this year.

“I love football. I miss the game,” Griffin said. “I am ready. So I haven’t given up on 2017 yet. There are some teams that need help and may need help going into the playoffs.

The Chargers and Ravens worked Griffin out during the offseason, but nothing ever came of their interest.

Baltimore showed interest in him after Joe Flacco suffered a back during training camp. Although, the injury wasn’t severe enough for them to sign a veteran for the start of the regular season.

Griffin, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2012. He spent four years in Washington before signing a two-year, $15 million contract that includes $6.75 million guaranteed with the Browns back in March of last year.

RGIII was set to make a base salary of $6 million for the 2017 season when the Browns released him this past March.

In 2016, Griffin appeared in five games thrown for 886 yards while completing 59.2 percent his passes to go along with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s also added 190 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Browns.
