Saints Sign FB Austin Johnson To Practice Squad, Cut OT Bryan Witzmann

The New Orleans Saints signed FB Austin Johnson to their practice squad and waived OT Bryan Witzmann from the unit, according to the NFL transactions release.

The Saints’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. FB Austin Johnson
  2. DB Brandon Dixon (Exception)
  3. LB Henry Coley 
  4. Ryan Seymour (Exception)
  5. WR Reggie Bell 
  6. DB Alden Darby
  7. WR Seantavius Jones 
  8. FB Toben Opurum
  9. DT Ashaad Mabry 
  10. OL Cyril Lemon (injured)
  11. TE Chris Manhertz

Johnson, 24, originally signed on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee back in 2012. He later signed a future/reserve contract with the Saints in January of 2013, and has been on and off of their practice squad ever since.

This season, Johnson has appeared in six games and ran for nine yards on four carries (2.3 YPC) to go along with two receptions for five yards receiving and one total touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 fullback out of 24 qualifying players.
