Stanford Routt Close To Signing With A New Team?

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com reports that free agent CB Stanford Routt is getting much closer to deciding where he’ll be playing next season.

So far Routt has managed to visit with the Bills, Bengals and Chiefs in the last week. Other team’s have shown some amount of interest in him like the Titans and Cowboys but if the report is true, then you can expect to see him choosing between the team’s that he’s already visited with.

Routt mentioned that he really liked Buffalo and meeting with the front office and itds players so they could be the favorites.

It’s hard to gauge whether or not Kansas City’s interest in Routt is a tactic to obtain some leverage in negotiations with Brandon Carr but if they get the feeling that it will take too much money to keep him, they could move quickly on Routt.

As for the Bengals, last year they lost Jonathan Joseph during free agency which was a huge loss for the teams secondary. Leon Hall and Adam Jones were alright, but additional talent is needed. I could see them signing Routt because they’ve taken some chances on a number of free agent players in recent years like Manny Lawson and the aforementioned  Jones. To me, it makes more sense for them to draft a rookie like Dre Kirkpatrick or Janoris Jenkins in the first-round than to take a chance on a guy who has largely been disappointing in recent years.
