Titans Rookie QB Marcus Mariota Has Sprained MCL

Titans HC Ken Whisenhunt announced Monday that an MRI on first-round QB Marcus Mariota revealed that he has a sprained MCL.

According to Whisenhunt, Mariota is walking around “fine” and they plan to see how he’s doing this this week before deciding on his status.

We need to see how Mariota progresses this week,” said Whisenhunt. “We aren’t going to do anything to put him into any kind of jeopardy.”

Mariota took a hit to the knee from Dolphins DE Olivier Vernon in the first half Sunday’s loss, but he managed to stay in the game.

After the game, Whisenhunt was clearly pissed off about the hit on his quarterback.

I think it was done with the idea of trying to hurt our quarterback,” Whisenhunt said, per Jason Wolf. “That’s bulls–t football.

However, Mariota said Vernon spoke to him after the game and apologized.

“He came up to me after the game and apologized so I don’t think it was malicious at all,” Mariota said, per Wolf.

Should Mariota miss time, Zach Mettenberger would start in his place.

This season, Mariota has thrown for 1,239 yards while completing 63.9 percent of his passes to go along with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also added 72 yards rushing over the course of five games.
