Unlikely Kirk Cousins Is Traded This Offseason?

Rick Snider of the Washington Post writes that Redskins backup QB Kirk Cousins is “going nowhere” this offseason.

According to Snider, “the only way Cousins leaves is if some team goes nuts after the draft and offers a high 2015 pick after failing to get a passer.

  • Snider can’t see any team offering the Redskins a first or second-pick in this year’s draft for Cousins, especially after struggled during his three-game stint as the team’s starting quarterback.
  • Snider adds that Rex Grossman is more likely to be on the outs in Washington than Cousins.

Cousins has reiterated in recent weeks that he would welcome a trade that would give him a shot to start for a team next season.

“I’m open to a trade but I love Washington, the city, and fans,” said Cousins, via Sirius XM NFL Radio. “My goal is to be a starting quarterback but I’m willing to wait my turn at the same time. Open to all options.”

The trade rumors first started after the regular season concluded when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported at the conclusion of the regular the season that Cousins was open to the idea of being traded, and the Browns recent decision to hire former Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan only added fuel to the idea that Cousins could be moved.

This is a topic that figures to resurface throughout the offseason once teams begin to actively address their rosters.
