Vikings HC Mike Zimmer Could Return For Week 14’s Game Following Eye Surgery

Ben Goessling of ESPN reports that it appears as though Vikings HC Mike Zimmer could return to the team next week, despite undergoing an emergency surgery for a detached retina that forced him to miss Thursday’s game against the Cowboys.

Goessling mentions that his surgery could prevent him from flying to Jacksonville for next week’s game but he told NBC that he had a contingency plan in place to drive to Jacksonville if needed.

As of now, Zimmer is scheduled to conduct his regular Wednesday news conference, which appears to be an indication that he’ll be back to a normal routine next week.

Zimmer previously had a procedure to repair a torn retina after the team’s game against the Bears a month ago. Zimmer scratched his eye during the game and doctors told him that he had to take care of his quickly or run the risk of going blind.

Since taking over as the Vikings’ head coach in 2014, Zimmer has led the Vikings to a record of 24-20 (54.5 percent) and one playoff appearance in three seasons.

We’ll have more regarding Zimmer’s status as the news is available.
