Vikings Sign DT Will Sutton, Waive DT Toby Johnson

The Minnesota Vikings announced Wednesday that they’ve signed former Bears DT Will Sutton to a contract and placed DT Toby Johnson on waivers.

Sutton, 25, was taken in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Bears. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2,851,068 contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2017 season when the Bears recently cut him loose last week.

In 2016, Sutton appeared in eight games and recorded 15 tackles and no sacks for the Bears.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.

Johnson, 25, originally signed on with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in May of 2015. He was waived coming out of the preseason and had brief stints with the Jaguars and Bears before joining the Vikings towards the end of the season.

Minnesota elected to bring Johnson back on a futures deal last January and he was on and off of their practice squad during the season.

In 2016, Johnson appeared in two games for the Vikings and recorded two tackles.
