Jason Cole of B/R, citing multiple sources, reports that Johnny Manziel is “all but gone” from the Browns.
Cole mentions that while new Browns HC Hue Jackson can appreciate Manziel’s confidence, he has no appreciation for his poor work ethic and the off-the-field issues he’s dealt with since entering the NFL.
With this in mind, Cole says you can expect to see Manziel gone as soon as possible, considering that Jacksonย is reportedly convinced that Manziel isn’t the answer for them at quarterback.
The Browns hold the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, and Cole seems to think they will be looking strongly at taking a quarterback at that spot in the draft. Cole specifically mentions Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz as three quarterbacks worth keeping an eye on at some point in the draft.
Numerous reports said earlier in the week that Jackson was likely to move on Manziel, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
Manziel, 23, is in the second year of his four-year, $8,247,250 rookie contractย that includedย $6,702,625 guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary ofย $794,936 this season and another $1,169,872 in 2016.
This season, Manziel has appeared in nineย games and thrown for 1,500ย yards while completing 57.8 percent of his passes to go along with sevenย touchdowns and fiveย interceptions. Manziel has also ran for 230 yards.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.
