Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is hearing that the Broncos’ offer to free agent QB Brockย Osweiler is actually $13 million per year.
However, Denver is reportedly willing to increase up to $15 million annually as part of a new contract.
La Canfora adds that we’ll have to see if the Texans make a push to land Osweiler, which some have said is a serious possibility.
- Mike Klisย previously reported that the Broncos have offered Osweiler a three-year contract worth more thanย $45 million, including incentives, which appears to be in line with the top end of what Denver is willing to pay him.
- Earlier in the day,ย Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that the Texans are expected to make Osweiler aย competitive offer in both guaranteed money and per-year salary.
- A team source tells Robinson that $15-$16 millionย per year in his next contract will be be a “legitimate number” forย Osweiler.
With Peyton Manning retiring, it’s clear that Osweiler will have some leverage with the Broncos, even though he’s played in a limited number of games.
Another issue is that other teams around the league have a ton of cap space to work with, so if top dollar is a big consideration for Osweiler, the Broncos may have a difficult time being competitive and addressing other roster needs.
Osweiler, 25, played outย the final year of his four-year, $3.516 million rookie contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next week.
In 2015, Osweiler threwย for 1,967 yards while completing 61.8 percent of his passes to go along with 10ย touchdowns and sixย interceptions over the course of sevenย games.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 quarterbackย out of 37 qualifying players.
