49ers Designate WR Richie James To Return From IR, Promote DE Alex Barrett

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they’ve designated WR Richie James to return from injured reserve and promoted DE Alex Barrett to their active roster.

The 49ers activated CB Tim Harris Jr. from the practice squad injured list and signed DL Josiah Coatney and DL Adam Shuler to the practice squad.

Here’s the 49ers updated practice squad:

  1. WR River Cracraft
  2. DB Johnathan Cyprien
  3. DT Darrion Daniels
  4. TE Chase Harrell (Suspended)
  5. DB Tim Harris
  6. RB Josh Hokit
  7. WR Jauan Jennings
  8. DB Jared Mayden
  9. T Dakoda Shepley
  10. LB Joe Walker
  11. WR Kevin White
  12. DB Brian Allen
  13. RB Austin Walter
  14. T Cody Conway
  15. CB Jamar Taylor
  16. DL Josiah Coatney
  17. DL Adam Shuler

This opens a three-week window of time for the 49ers to activate James from injured reserve and add him to their 53-man roster.

James, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2018. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract.

In 2019, James appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and caught six passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. He also totaled 428 kick return yards and 264 punt return yards.
