Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers will be hosting former Dolphins LB Philip Wheeler for a visit on Monday.
San Francisco continues to meet with available free agent linebackers now that Patrick Willis and Chris Borland surprisingly retired this offseason.
The 49ers have also shown interest inย Desmond Bishop,ย Lance Briggs,ย Brandon Spikes and Erin Henderson in recent days.
Wheeler, 30, was release by the Dolphins in a move that freed up $3 million in cap space. He signed aย ive-year, $26 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed with Miami a few years ago.
In 2014,ย Wheelerย appeared in 15 games and recorded 45 tackles for the Dolphins.ย Pro Football Focusย has him rated as the No. 18 outside linebacker in a 4-3 system out of 40 qualifying players.
