According to Ian Rapoport, 49ers K Robbie Gould has a strained quad that is putting his availability for Monday night’s game against the Seahawks in question.
Rapoport adds San Francisco has signed K Chase McLaughlin in case Gould can’t play.
Gould, 36, originally signed on with the Patriots back in 2005 as an undrafted free agent, but he lasted just a few months in New England before joining the Ravens briefly and later joining the Bears.
Gould was in the fourth year of his five-year, $17.925 million contract when he was released by the Bears at the start of the 2016 season. He later signed a one-year deal with the Giants.
The 49ers brought Gould in on a two-year, $4 million contract in 2017. He was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason when the 49ers franchised him back in March. After a lengthy negotiation, Gould signed a four-year, $19 million extension right before the deadline.
In 2019, Gould has appeared in eight games for the 49ers and converted 13 of 20 field goal attempts (65 percent) to go along with 26 of 26 extra-point tries.
McLaughlin, 23, originally signed on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in May. He was among Buffalo’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and caught on with the Vikings’ practice squad.
Minnesota wound up cutting him after a week with the team on September 10. He later signed on with the Chargers before being released again.
In 2019, McLaughlin has appeared in four games for the Chargers and converted 6 of 9 field goal attempts to go along with all seven extra point tries.
