49ers Name Alex Smith Starting QB

Following the San Francisco 49ers final preseason game, head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that Alex Smith will be the teams starting quarterback for the upcoming season, via CSN Bay Area.

Another move that almost everyone saw coming but it’s really the best decision considering that Colin Kaepernick needs more time before he’s going to be able to move the ball. At least Smith gives them a chance if their offensive line can even hold up.

Smith finished the final preseason game after going  20-of-36 for 198 yards and two interceptions. Obviously the interceptions are a pretty big concern as he wasn’t exactly playing against a number one defense.

Depending on how the first few weeks play out, there’s a chance that the team could look to Kaepernick at some point in the season. If there’s a silver lining to this, San Francisco has a chance to be bad enough to be in the running for Andrew Luck next season.
