According to Ian Rapoport, 49ers RB Raheem Mostert spoke to a high-ranking member of the team to try and clear the air moving forward about his request for a trade.
Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, requested a trade on behalf of his client when contract talks between the two sides stalled out. When asked if the situation was cleared up, Tessler told Rapoport, “Hopefully that’ll be the case.”
Mostert had requested a raise to bring his salary in line with teammate and 49ers RB Tevin Coleman‘s deal, which will pay him around $4.5 million in 2020.
The veteran running back still has two more years left on the extension he signed last year with San Francisco and won’t be an unrestricted free agent again until 2022.
The 49ers traded RB Matt Breida to the Dolphins during the draft. Their backfield currently consists of Mostert, Coleman, Jeff Wilson and Jerick McKinnon.
Mostert, 28, wound up signing on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in 2015. He had brief stints with the Dolphins, Ravens, Browns, Jets and Bears before signing on to the 49ers’ practice squad in 2016.
The 49ers brought Mostert back on a one-year exclusive rights contract in 2018 before tendering him a restricted offer in 2019. He later signed a three-year, $8.7 million extension
In 2019, Mostert appeared in all 16 games and rushed for 772 yards on 172 carries (5.6 YPC) and eight touchdowns to go along with 14 receptions for 180 yards receiving and two more touchdowns.
We’ll have more regarding Mostert and the 49ers as the news is available.
