The 49ers brought him in for a visit on Wednesday, so they clearly were impressed enough to quickly sign him.
Toomer, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2012. He spent his rookie season on the Seahawks practice squad before he was waived at the start of the 2014 season and later claimed by the Cowboys.
After a stint with the Rams, Toomer signed on to the Raiders practice squad. He returned to the Raiders on an exclusive rights contract back in 2016 but was once again among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.
The Chargers signedย Toomer off of the Raiders’ practice squad a few weeks into the 2016 season and brought him back last year on a one-year restricted deal worthย $1.797 millionย for the 2017 season.
In 2017, Toomer appeared in 15 games for the Chargers and recorded 48 tackles, one sack, an interception returned for a touchdown, two forced fumbles and three pass defenses.
