According to Ian Rapoport, the Steelers and 49ers have a deal on potential trade compensation for WR Brandon Aiyuk. If the 49ers give the final sign-off, a trade will be processed.
Rapoport adds the Steelers and Aiyuk are in a good place on a long-term deal for the receiver. The holdup remains the San Francisco side of the deal.
Rapoport mentions the 49ers have an offer out to Aiyuk for an extension but he hasn’t accepted it. San Francisco re-engaged in contract talks with Aiyuk late last week after he nixed potential trades to the Browns and Patriots.
Josina Anderson adds the Steelers believe an agreement is currently complete on their end and has been for a little bit now. She confirms Pittsburgh is waiting for the 49ers to pull the trigger and a source called it “a waiting game.”
The Steelers have been Aiyuk’s preferred landing spot but meeting the 49ers’ asking price in a trade has been the major hurdle so far.
This whole situation has had several twists and turns over the past week but it seems like a resolution could finally be imminent.
Aiyuk, 26, was a one-year starter at Arizona State and earned first-team All-Pac 12 in his final season. The 49ers traded up with the Vikings to select him with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
He signed a four-year, $12,531,342 rookie contract that included a $6,673,703 signing bonus. The 49ers picked up his fifth-year option last year that will cost them $14,124,000 fully guaranteed for the 2024 season.
Aiyuk is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
In 2023, Aiyuk appeared in 16 games for the 49ers and caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.
