49ers Working On New Contract For LB Michael Wilhoite

49ers GM Trent Baalke told reporters on Friday that they are working on a new contract forย ILBย Michael Wilhoite, per Cam Inman.

San Francisco tendered Wilhoite, anย exclusive rights free agents, a contract back in early March, which means he’ll be under team control for at least the 2015 season.

Earlier in the offseason, reports mentioned that the 49ers wereย trying to trade Wilhoite. However, that was before linebackers Patrick Willisย and Chris Borland announced their retirement from the NFL.

Obviously, things can change rather quickly in the NFL, asย Wilhoite is now listed as one of the starting inside linebackers on their depth chart.

Wilhoite, 28,ย appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 87 tackles, one forced fumble, two interceptions and six pass defenses last year.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a new contract forย Wilhoite as the news is available.
