Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t in any rush to sign an extension with Green Bay, as he and his agent will be watching to see what the Ravens do with and soon-to-be free agent Joe Flacco.
“I think everybody is going to see what Joe (Flacco) ends up signing for,” Rodgers said on his weekly radio show Tuesday, via ESPNMilwaukee.com.
Rodgers signed a six year, $65 million deal in 2008, but since then, he has been nothing short of a bargain when you take in consideration that Saints quarterback Drew Brees makes $20 million annually.
“When that time comes, we’ll get a deal done. I’m not worried about that. I think the Packers want to keep me around for a little while longer, and I’d love to be a Packer for life,” Rodgers said.
There’s almost no way the Ravens get Flacco under contract for less than $100 million, so the Packers will have to be prepared to at least come close to that figure. You could make the case that Rodgers, given his past performance, should surpass any deal handed out to Flacco. It’s entirely possible that Rodgers will eventually be the highest paid player in the league once he and the Packers come to an agreement on a contract.
Rodgers won’t be a free agent until after the 2014 season.
