Patriots

  • According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, there were people in the Patriots organization who held out hope as recently as yesterday that a summit between QB Tom Brady and HC Bill Belichick could clear things up and spark a reunion.
  • However, Breer says that meeting never happened.
  • Brady visited Patriots owner Robert Kraft Monday night to inform him of his decision: “Tommy initiated contact last night & came over. We had a positive, respectful discussion. It’s not the way I want it to end, but I want him to do what is in his best personal interest. After 20 years with us, he has earned that right. I love him like a son.” (Mike Reiss)
  • At the end of the day, Kraft told NFL Media’s Michael Giardi that it was Brady’s call to leave: “If Tom wanted to remain a Patriot, we would have had a deal.”
  • ESPN’s Jeff Darlington says four factors that Brady will take into account when choosing his next team include a collaborative coach, a well-built roster even if not seen as a Super Bowl favorite, good weather and proximity to New York City, though none of those are dealbreakers individually.
  • ESPN’s Dianna Russini says the Patriots actually never had interest in QB Teddy Bridgewater.
  • The Patriots also were involved with the Vikings in a potential trade for WR Stefon Diggs before he was traded to Buffalo for four picks including a first. (Albert Breer)
