AFC North Notes: Bengals, Ravens, Steelers

Bengals

  • Per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Bengals QB Joe Burrow said he expected to be the starter before the news broke about the team releasing Andy Dalton: “That’s my goal. I’m going to work really hard to get there. That first snap of training camp I’m going to walk into that huddle super confident.”
  • NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reveals Dalton asked to be released and the team obliged.
  • According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, a Bengals source said the team had been unsuccessful so far in shopping Dalton for a trade: “Tried to find a trade partner. Andy requested opportunity to see what’s out there and we obliged. He’s meant a lot to us, so we wish him the best.”
  • The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. reports that after the Bears traded for Nick Foles, there was never a market for Dalton. Cincinnati had some conversations but they never reached the level of discussing compensation.
  • Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer says again that Cincinnati tried to trade Dalton to the Jaguars but Jacksonville’s interest was limited, potentially due to his salary.
  • Vikings undrafted free agent CB Nevelle Clarke said he turned down an offer from the Bengals to sign in Minnesota. (Courtney Cronin)
