Bills
- In an agent survey by the Athletic’s Ben Standig, Bills GM Brandon Beane got some credit as one of the best general managers in the NFL: โVery advanced in his thinking. Cutting-edge operation.โ
- NFL Media’s Marc Sessler picks Bills WR Stefon Diggs as his breakout candidate to make their first Pro Bowl in 2020.
- ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques lists Bills K Stephen Hauschka as a veteran player in danger of being cut this preseason.
Dolphins
- Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald says in nickel defense, the 10 players most likely to be on the field are DL Davon Godchaux, Christian Wilkins, Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson, LBs Kyle Van Noy and Jerome Baker, CBs Byron Jones and Xavien Howard and safeties Eric Rowe and Bobby McCain.
- The final defensive back spot is likely to come down to first-round CB Noah Igbinoghene or Nik Needham or Jamal Perry. Or Miami could go with a safety like Adrian Colbert, Kavon Frazier or third-round rookie Brandon Jones. When Miami goes to a dime package, it would take one of the defensive linemen off the field.
- When Miami puts more linebackers on the field, Jackson anticipates Dolphins LB Raekwon McMillan seeing the field more in running situations and LB Kamu Grugier-Hill coming on for passing downs.
- Jackson thinks new Dolphins S Clayton Fejedelem has an edge on a roster spot for his special teams ability, which makes Colbert, Frazier and S Stephen Parker contenders for a potential fifth safety slot.
- While Dolphins second-round DL Raekwon Davis is the favorite for the third defensive tackle slot, Jackson writes not to discount DT Zach Sieler or fifth-round DL Jason Strowbridge carving out roles.
Jets
- Brian Costello of the New York Post points out Jets S Marcus Maye‘s future with the team is likely tied to whether or not S Jamal Adams stays in New York long term.
- If the Jets extend Adams to a presumed top-shelf deal, they could be reluctant to also shell out money for Maye, especially after just drafting S Ashtyn Davis in the third round.
- For 2020, though, Costello points out Maye is close with Adams and could play a critical role in reconciling the mercurial safety to getting on board without an extension this year.
