AFC Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Titans

Colts

  • Kevin Bowen of 1075TheFan writes that the Colts should re-sign veteran WR T.Y. Hilton to a final contract with Indianapolis “somewhere around the two-year range” if they can’t sign a better receiver in free agency.
  • Per the Athletic’s Stephen Holder, Colts QB Philip Rivers acknowledged this could be his last game with Indianapolis, though he’s not planning for that: “It did cross my mind. If things don’t go the way you want this weekend, it could be… I guess it’s healthy to have that thought bc we’re not guaranteed anything going forward.”
  • The Colts will also be missing OT Will Holden this week in addition to LT Anthony Castonzo. (Mike Chappell)
  • Colts CB Rock Ya-Sin is in the concussion protocol. (Joel Erickson)

Jaguars

Texans

  • According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans aren’t interested in hiring a college head coach to fill their vacancy.
  • Various coaches like Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck, Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald and former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer have been reported to be drawing NFL interest, but apparently not from Houston.

Titans

  • Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson says he would be surprised if Titans OC Arthur Smith lands a head coaching job after taking the temperature of the various openings and what teams are looking for.
  • One team has reached out to former Titans HC Mike Mularkey doing background work on Smith, though, per Paul Kuharsky.
