AFC Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Titans

Colts

The Colts didn’t add any big names at wide receiver or tight end in free agency, yet HC Frank Reich is liking what he sees from rookies Kylen Granson and Mike Strachan in camp.

“Kylen Granson is what we saw on tape. He’s an explosive athlete,” Reich said, via Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan. “We knew he was a real smart guy and he’s picking up the offense real fast.”

“Strachan, the size and speed and he’s got good short-area quickness, he just has great competitive disposition as an athlete,” Reich says. “He’s really smart. So just really happy about the immediate impression he’s made.”

Jaguars

Ian Rapoport recently said that the chances of TE Tim Tebow actually makes the Jaguars’ 53 man roster heading into the 2021 season are “50/50” at this point.

“Is he going to make the team?” Rapoport said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. ”I was told 50/50. But he’s got the head coach in his corner, he’s obviously being brought on for a reason… they watched multiple workouts. I would imagine they think that he’s going to make it if they sign him.”

Titans

• According to Jim Wyatt of TenneseeTitans.com, the Titans were unwilling to pay WR Corey Davis anywhere near what his current deal with the Jets is worth, and also declined his fifth-year option worth $15.68 million in 2021. New Titans’ WR Julio Jones is scheduled to make $15.3 million in 2021, so Jones ended up being the cheaper of the two options. 
• Wyatt says one receiver who will benefit from playing with Jones is WR Josh Reynolds, as well as WR Dez Fitzpatrick, who has the potential to contribute right away for the Titans as a rookie.
• Another position that still raises questions for the Titans is at kicker, with K Blake Haubeil and K Tucker McCann currently battling for the position. Wyatt points out that neither may end up being the starter if veteran K Stephen Gostkowski decides to continue his NFL career.
