AFC Notes: Colts, Patriots, Ravens, Texans

Colts

  • Stephen Holder reports that the Colts are also still monitoring free agent safeties at this point, but he doesn’t believe a major move is imminent for Indianapolis.
  • Holder explains that there’s some concern distributing reps during training camp with Malik Hooker and Clayton Geathers opening camp on the PUP list.

Patriots

  • Jeff Howe reports that Patriots OL Marcus Cannon is expected to be good to go for the start of training camp. Howe adds that Cannon has recovered nicely from season-ending ankle surgery.
  • According to Mike Reiss, Bret Bielema’s official title with the Patriots in 2018 is “consultant to the head coach.

Ravens

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith told reporters on Tuesday that pre-workout supplements were responsible for last year’s four-game suspension.

“One year, a supplement can be on the list. And that same supplement you’re taking can be banned the next year,” Smith said, per Jamison Hensley. “That’s how certain things happen.”

  • Hensley mentions that Ravens rookie WR Jordan Lasley continues to flash in training camp and is more polished than the typical fifth-round pick.

Texans

  • Chris Mortensen reports that Texans DE J.J. Watt (knee) “crushed” his conditioning test Monday and is ready to play a full season.
  • Watt later laughed off the report, saying: “lol was Mort hiding out in the bushes yesterday morning?! I feel phenomenal, but let’s focus on playing a full practice first. One day at a time boys.”
