AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Texans

Colts

Colts QB Andrew Luck says he’s feeling “good and strong” and is “way more confident” at this point in the preseason.

“I’m not going to lie to you guys, I actually feel good and strong,” Luck said, via the Indianapolis Star. “My shoulder felt alive. I was a little happier with where the ball went when I threw it. A little bit more of a sense, ‘I wanna back-shoulder this to Ryan [Grant] on the sideline. Good. It ended up where I wanted it to.’ I keep feeling and seeing improvement. … I feel way more confident. I feel like I’ve proven [a lot] to myself.

  • Colts HC Frank Reich said OT Denzelle Good is “week to week” after undergoing an MRI on a knee injury. (Kevin Bowen)
  • Regarding Colts DE John Simon‘s groin injury, Reich said the lineman is “day to day” and has been held out of practice as a “precautionary” method.
  • As for the status of Colts DBs T.J. Green and Ronald Martin, Reich added both players could miss “a few weeks” with their injuries.
  • Reich said recently acquired CB Lenzy Pipkins is a “good fit” for their defense and has “good awareness” on the field. (Mike Chappell)

Jaguars

Jaguars WR Marqise Lee suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury during Saturday’s preseason game.

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone admitted that the injury “looks bad” but he still likes their receiving corps even if they’re forced to move forward without Lee: “There’s a great level of competition at that position, so you know, I feel fine. … I mean, we’ve got some players at that position.” (John Oesher)

Texans

Texans DE J.J. Watt said it was good to see some playing time in Saturday’s preseason game to experience some of the things you can’t simulate in practice.

“I wanted to get in on tackling, I wanted to have to pop back up, get back to the huddle, play another play, go off to the sideline, get a series and get another series,” Watt said, via the Houston Chronicle. “You just want to get those little intricacies of the game that you don’t get in practice so that the first time you’re seeing it is not New England. I’m glad we got that in. It felt good.
