AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • Troy Renck mentions Broncos C Matt Paradis as a candidate for a contract extension this offseason, considering that he has not missed a snap in three years and healthy now.

Chiefs

Chiefs GM Brett Veach said that all QB Patrick Mahomes has done since arriving in Kansas City is wow everyone.

โ€œIt was something we all expected,โ€ Veach said. โ€œFrom the day Patrick stepped on the field, in the rookie minicamps, the OTAs, the training camps, he has always wowed us. He has a lot to learn yet. I think he grew tremendously. But having watched him day in and day out just impress us, take to the studying, take to working the craft, he did a tremendous job. I think we knew when the Denver game rolled around that he would absolutely make plays and show all the things that he showed throughout this process.โ€

  • Terez A. Paylor reports that the Chiefs have not reached out to free agent DB Tyrann Mathieu, but he thinks they could be a nice fit if the money somehow works for both sides.

Raiders

New Raiders RB Doug Martin said heโ€™s open to playing any role for his new team, even itโ€™s behind Marshawn Lynch.

โ€œMarshawn is a great back,โ€ Martin said, via Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. โ€œHeโ€™s definitely made his mark in the league. Whatever role they want me to play, Iโ€™m willing to play. Iโ€™m not sure how many carries Iโ€™ll be getting, how much carries weโ€™ll be splitting.โ€

  • According to Jesse Palmer, Texans CB Johnathan Josephโ€˜s final decision came on where to sign this offseason came down to the Raiders or returning to Houston. In the end, Palmer writes that โ€œmoney wasnโ€™t a factorโ€ for Joseph because he did not want to relocate his family from Houston after playing there for seven years.
  • Vic Tafur of The Athletic adds that the Raiders were a โ€œclose secondโ€ to the Texans.
