AFC West Notes: Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders

Chargers

  • There was some concern that theย Chargers could be without CB Trevor Williams for an extended period of time, but Jack Wang reports that Williams avoided a high-ankle sprain andย play in the preseason at some point.

Chiefs

Chiefs second-year QB Patrick Mahomes has thrown a number of interceptions during training camp up to this point, but HC Andy Reid isn’t concerned about the turnovers.

โ€œI told you at theย beginning of campย I donโ€™t care about all that stuff,โ€ Reid said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. โ€œI want him to test the offense โ€ฆ If you donโ€™t have the intestinal fortitude to go test it youโ€™re going to be one of those quarterbacks who checks it down every time. Thatโ€™s not what itโ€™s all about. The great thing about Pat is that he never makes the same mistake twice. It doesnโ€™t happen โ€ฆ When he does make a mistake he comes back and he can talk to you about it. Heโ€™s done nothing but get better and better as we go and heโ€™s got a load on him here.โ€

Raiders

  • Michael Gehlken mentions that Raiders veteran WR Jordy Nelson is moving like heโ€™s 28, running polished routes, developing timing with QB Derek Carr and has been an off-field leader for the team.
