Alabama RB Trent Richardson The Rams “First Choice?”

Russ Lande of the Sporting News reports that sources close to the Rams have mentioned that they have Alabama RB Trent Richardson as their “first choice.”

Richardson has been referred to as the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson, and despite the fact that the position has seen a drop in overall value, he figures to be taking within the first 10 picks. Both the Browns and the Buccaneers would have a hard time passing on him at #4 and #5 respectively.

The general consensus is that the Rams will address the wide receiver position, should they stay at #6 overall. St Louis could end up moving down, but that’s hard to project at this point in time.

Evan Silva mentions that Rams RB Steven Jackson is 29 and has the “most carries in NFL among active RBs” by several hundred, so you can see that adding a long-term prospect at the position isn’t the worst idea. Jeff Fisher will likely implement a run-heavy offense and pairing Richardson with Jackson could be a pretty formidable tandem.
