According to Dan Graziano, Bears LB Roquan Smith will be out indefinitely while dealing with what HC Matt Nagy termed a “personal issue.”
Smith was a surprise inactive for the Bears on Sunday for personal reasons despite not being listed on the injury report all week. Sources tell Graziano that Smith has not been acting like himself at the team facility for the past week or so.
Nagy was pressed multiple times for details in media availability since the game but declined to elaborate more on Smith’s situation.
Smith was quickly becoming one of the best young linebackers in the NFL, so he’ll be sorely missed by Chicago for as long as he’s out.
Smith, 22, was taken with the No. 8 overall pick out of Georgia by the Bears in 2018. He signed a $18,547,606 contract that includes an $11,569,168 signing bonus.
The contract also includes a fifth-year option for the Bears to pick up in 2021.
In 2019, Smith has appeared in three games for the Bears and recorded 24 total tackles.
We’ll have more on Smith as the news is available.
