Bears OC Aaron Kormer Was Source Of “Buyers Remorse” Report Regarding Jay Cutler’s Contract

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported this past weekend that the Chicago Bears are having a “serious case of buyer’s remorse” over the contract they signed QB Jay Cutler to last year.

According to Rapoport, the Bears considered benching him during the game against the Buccaneers and there is reportedly doubt within the organization that Cutler can be the guy to lead them to where they want to go.

As surprising as this is, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that Bears OC Aaron Kromer admitted to being the source of the report to the team on Monday, and offered a tearful apology for criticizing the Cutler.

Sources told Biggs that Kromer “adamantly denied” that he had said anything about the team have buyer’s remorse regarding Cutler’s contract to the NFL Network.

Cutler was reportedly in the room for Kromer’s apology in which he expressed frustration about his play management. According to one of Biggs’ sources, Cutler shook his head during Kromer’s apology.

The Bears’ players appear to be stunned that this report came Kromer.

“I’m still kind of trying to sort my way through this to be honest,” one player told Biggs. “It’s one of the most (messed) up things I have ever seen.

The issues within the Bears apparently go beyond just Cutler and the coaching staff, as Biggs mentions that the relationship between Cutler and WR Brandon Marshall is also believed to be strained after Marshall agreed that he too would have buyer’s remorse with the quarterback’s contract.

There is already plenty of talk about the future of HC Marc Trestman and DC Mel Tucker, but the situation in Chicago looks be even worse than it appeared.

Cutler, 31, hasn’t come close to living up to his seven-year, $126.7 million contract that included $54 million guaranteed this season. He stands to make base salaries of $15.5 million and $16 million over the next two years.

This season, Cutler has completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 3,446 yards to go along with 26 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 32 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
