NFC Notes: Brandon Cisse, Tate Ratledge, Bears, Lions, Packers

Bears

Bears HC Ben Johnson acknowledged that LG Joe Thuney is hoping the team names a starter at left tackle so he can begin to build rapport with whoever will be at his side to start the season.

“I think Joe would like some clarity on who he can build a rapport with,” Johnson said, via Pro Football Talk. “It’s been a little bit of a revolving door. He’s a pro’s pro and he’s willing to do everything, but you want five guys playing as one. We’ll go as long as we need to to figure out who those five are, but at the same time, the sooner we can make that decision, the sooner they can jell as a unit as well. Last year it took us until the bye week before we started clicking as an offensive line and the run game came alive the way we wanted. I think he’s doing a great job. The communication is a huge piece of it. We judge it off the tape. The tape tells us everything we need to know.”

Lions

Lions HC Dan Campbell said that the team will give OL Tate Ratledge a chance at center to see if he can fill the void left by C Cade Mays.

We’re going to work him a little bit. I don’t know how much we’ll do in team, but certainly we’re going to be snapping him some pre-practice. And then he’s been going through some of the calls, things like that. So, we’re just prepared. We’ve got to be willing to go wherever we can go with this,” Campbell said of Ratledge playing center, via Lions Wire.

Campbell added that he liked what he saw out of OL Seth McLaughlin and believes he can hold up as the anchor of the offensive line.

One of the things we talk about with Seth is, he’s not this enormous person. And, so his niche is playing low. He’s quick, he’s super sharp and he’s really good at the second level. And then pass game is the anchor. He’s just got to bend. He’s got to do, in a lot of cases, he’s got to do double what somebody else does that has more stature, you know, size or stature to him. That’s the hand he’s dealt. I thought he did that the other night. I did think he anchored better, I thought he strained, I thought he tried to do all the little things and that’s a credit to him. I certainly was not disappointed with him the other day,” Campbell said.

Packers

Packers CB Brandon Cisse said he felt he was injured during the team’s preseason game and didn’t return, remaining on the sideline for the rest of the night. However, Cisse said the injury isn’t severe and that he was held out as a precaution.

“I just got beat up a little bit,” Cisse said, via Ryan Wood. “Nothing serious at all. I was trying to go back in. Just being precautionary. I’m fine. Nothing to worry about. I wanted to go back in.”
