Bears Place Jay Cutler & Matt Forte On IR

The Chicago Bears have announced their decision to place QB Jay Cutler and RB Matt Forte on season-ending injured reserve.

Sunday’s loss to the Packers ended their chances of making the playoffs and with that any need for Cutler or Forte to return.

A promising season for Chicago ended in the worst possible way. It’s one thing for a team to fall out of contention as the season goes on but it’s much worse to lose two of the best players at a point when they looked like one of the best teams in the NFC.

Forte’s contract is up following the season and at this point it seems as though the Bears will apply their franchise tag on him . Forte played the entire season despite the Bears low-balling him during contract talks and almost suffered a torn MCL. It would be wise for the Bears to try to work out a deal in the coming months if they intend to keep him beyond the 2012 season as Forte will not be willing to give them any sort of discount if they choose to franchise him.

Rumors have been circulating that Mike Martz would be let go at the end of the year but recent reports suggest that both he and GM Jerry Angelo could be back again next season.
