Bears QB Jay Cutler wants to keep his team’s payroll flexible and would take less money in his next deal if it meant that Chicago could bring in new talent, the signal caller mentioned on ESPN 1000’s “The Jay Cutler Show”.
“I want to be on a successful team, and I know that paying one or two or three players premium (salaries) hurts your chances of being able to bring in extra talent,” Cutler said. “So when we get there, we’ll figure it out.”
The Bears have played well this season but the team would be well-suited to bring in another offensive lineman or two to protect Cutler. Should the quarterback negotiate a cap-friendly contract, Chicago could pursue a high-profile free agent or two this offseason.
