Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Bears are re-signing LB/special teamer John Timu to a new contract on Tuesday.
Timu, 25, signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Washington back in May of 2015. He was on and off Chicago’s practice squad during his first few years in Chicago.
The Bears promoted him to theirย active roster a few weeks into the regular season last year and he went on to play out the final year of his three-year, $960,000 contract and made a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season.
Chicago declined to tenderย Timu a restricted offer, which is why he was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
In 2017, Timu appeared in 11 games for the Bears and recorded 16 tackles, no sacks and a pass defense.
