NFL Network’s Albert Breerย reports the Chicago Bears plan to start negotiating a new contract with RB Matt Forte sometime this weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine.
“I think it’s just a matter of time,” Bear coach Lovie Smith saidย yesterday. “That will happen eventually.”
Chicago offered Forte a deal that included close toย $15 million in guarantees so the Bears had better be willing to beat that by a lot if Forte’s going to take the negotiations serious this time around. The Bears will have plenty of cap room to work with and new GM Phil Emery has said that he remains one of their top priorities so a deal should get done at some point but could use the franchise tag to buy some time depending on things go this weekend.
