Bears Release RB Shaun Draughn, WR Chris Williams & TE Matthew Mulligan

The Chicago Bears announced the release of RB Shaun Draughn, WR Chris Williams and TE Matthew Mulligan on Tuesday.

Chicago also announced that they have signedย DT Roy Philon to their practice squadย andย have one open spot on their 53-man roster to go along with three spots on theย practice squad.

It’s interesting to see Draughn among the players released by the Bears given that he was in the mix to be team’s No. 2 running back.

Draughn, 26, signedย one-year contract with the Bears back in April and actually looked pretty good during the preseason. Chicago used aย fourth-round pick onย Ka’Deem Carey and has him listed as Matt Forte‘s backup on their depth chart.

Mulligan, 29, is primarily a blocking tight end. He too signed aย one-year contract with Chicago back in April.

Last year, he appeared in 15 games for the Patriots and caught two passes for 16 yards and a touchdown.
