Bears Release WR Santonio Holmes

The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that they released WR Santonio Holmes and signed WR Rashad Lawrence to their practice squad.

Holmes, 30, signed a one-year, $855,000 contract with Bears a few weeks before the start of the season. Chicago was looking for some depth at receiver after Marquess Wilson suffered a broken collarbone and was placed on short-term injured reserve.

This season, Holmes has appeared in nine games and caught eight passes for 67 yards while also contributing as a punt returner.

Before the Bears signed him, Holmes found almost no interest from NFL teams, so there is no guarantee that another opportunity will present itself in the coming weeks.
